Hinton is nestled in the heart of a recreational paradise on the eastern edge of Jasper National Park, 280 km west of Alberta's Capital, Edmonton, with a population of 10,000 people. The community provides a wide range of commercial, recreational, and cultural opportunities.

There is an abundance of recreational opportunities including skiing, kayaking, canoeing, fishing, hiking, curling, hunting, swimming to name but a few. Hinton is one of two staging areas for expeditions in the Willmore Wilderness Park, the other being Grande Cache.
