Located in the northeastern part of Alberta, Canada, the town of Elk Point is surrounded by many scenic lakes and provincial campsites. Elk Point was incorporated as a town in 1962, and has a population of approximately 1500.
Situated on highway 41, Elk Point is about 250 km east of Edmonton. Elk Point is located on the North Saskatchewan River, which was an important fur trade route. Both the Hudson's Bay Company and the North West Company had posts on the river near Elk Point.
Elk Point's economic base is agriculture, oil and gas, a salt plant, and the manufacturing of trusses. A fur trade interpretive center is located at the Buckingham House, and the Fort George Fort is open in the summer for tourists.
