Tanta DeStaffany Pennington
Is based in Victoria BC Canada and is a Fine Arts Diploma and Independent Studio Program graduate from the Vancouver Island School of Art. Tanta has exhibited work at the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria, Victoria International Airport, The Victoria Conference Centre, and local bistros and cafes. Tanta was one of five Canadian contempory artists at the International 2011 Florence Biennale. She is also the Artist in Residence, at the Oswego Hotel in Victoria BC. Her work is in collections in Western Canada, Hawaii, Singapore, and Italy.
Tanta’s practice begins by assembling ordinary objects and found pieces into contemporary still lifes. Observing and drawing the whimsical shapes allows her to create unexpected geographical and architectural spaces. Currently she is focused on exploring a range of scales and formats including abstract watercolour paintings, metal and paper sculptures, installations, and canvas relief structures.
