(Performing Arts, Theatres)
The season runs from mid September until late May and often well into July, with productions like CATS and Beauty and The Beast.
Each year, the playbill includes a broad range of theatrical experiences, from musicals to world and Canadian premieres, to dramas and popular comedies. In Fountain Hall which seats almost 500 people, six world-class productions are staged. These include lavish musicals like this season’s A Christmas Carol: The Musical, comedys like The Game of Love and Chance by Marivaux, and dramas like David Lindsay-Abaire’s Rabbit Hole. In the Studio Theatre, smaller more innovative productions are featured in this intimate setting. For example, this season Neptune will partner with the Distinct Theatre Society to produce A Beautiful View by Daniel Macivor.
Neptune Theatre is also home to a year round Theatre School, which runs classes, camps and workshops for people of all ages. The Theatre School also coordinates two elite training programs, the Youth Production Company and the Pre-professional Training program, which give aspiring local actors an opportunity to work with and learn from this region’s top artistic talent.
Neptune also has a touring company- the Young Neptune Company Tour, which since 1979 has traveled to schools across Nova Scotia, presenting plays to expose youth to live theatre, while at the same time educating them about topical issues. Close to 400,000 students have seen one of these performances over the years.
With an enduring mission to pursue theatrical excellence with artistic vision through superior quality productions that entertain, challenge, and educate its audience, Neptune Theatre is entering its 46th season.
