Elliot Lake Nuclear & Mining Museum

Elliot Lake was once touted as the Uranium Capital of the World.

(Museum)
The Elliot Lake Nuclear and Mining Museum now stands as a tribute and celebration of our proud mining heritage. Officially designated as the Northern Home of the Canadian Mining Hall of Fame, the Museum greets visitors from all over the world and has received much acclaim for its quality exhibits and presentations.

The Museum traces the history of the area from the early trapping to logging, through the full circle of its Uranium mining industry from it origins to its state-of-the-art closure. Central to the exhibit, the Northern Home of the Canadian Mining Hall of Fame displays portraits of individuals who have demonstrated outstanding lifetime achievement in the mining industry. The Museum houses the Dr. Franc Joubin Mineral Collection plus much of his geology equipment including his pic, Geiger counter and technical library books on mining.

Miner We have what we believe is the largest collection of mine rescue equipment perhaps in Ontario, if not Canada and an excellent facsimile of a mining stope designed by local high school students. The backdrop to the wildlife display is a landmark known as Horne Lake. This 47' x 10' mural was done by a local and talented wildlife artist.
