TAG was formed in 1980 as a public, not-for-profit exhibition space to showcase the local art club, the Temiskaming Palette and Brush Club. It quickly grew, opening its space to artists across Canada. In 1999, the Temiskaming Art Gallery Fund was established. The Fund is an endowment fund established to support the costs of operating the Temiskaming Art Gallery and the programs, exhibitions and educational programming the gallery offers to the public. This fund is held with the Tri-Town Foundation, a community foundation dedicated to improving the lives of Tri-Town and area residents. The Temiskaming Art Gallery Volunteers is a support group that raises funds through bake sales, teas, opening receptions, garden parties and a Christmas luncheon. The group was founded by the late Caroline MacArthur in 1982.
