In 1998, air conditioning was added to provide increased comfort to its patrons. The original Playhouse was designed to be a community centre/townhall. It wasbuilt in 1897, and was designed by the notable Island architect William Critchlow Harris. One fateful day, a train failed to stop at the railway terminal on the opposite side of the street.
In 1965 the building became known as the Kings Theater, and was refurbished to hold summerstock theater productions, featuring such classics as ‘Dracula.’
