The Opéra de Montréal, founded in 1980, is the largest francophone opera company in North America and is among the 15 most important opera houses on the continent.

Over the course of its 30 years of existence, the OdM has staged over 900 performances featuring singers of national and international renown, has welcomed over 20 million opera fans to Place des Arts, and has enriched some 153 young artists of the new generation. In addition, each year in December, the OdM presents its annual celebration of opera - The Gala - which provides an opportunity to hear some of the greatest music in the opera repertoire performed by some twenty artists from both near and far.
