This building recalls the collision impact between the Empress of Ireland and the Norwegian coal-ship Storstad during the night of May 29th,1914.
To be precise, some of the dimensions are conform with the original sizes of the two ships. The 1st class cabins, place of impact, the distance and diameter of the stacks, and part of the main exposition room of the Empress of Ireland are to scale.
A new permanent exposition presents the largest collection of objects recovered from the wreck, where you can see many new pictures and hear eye witness accounts of survivors. Discover life aboard a passenger ship in 1914 but also the dramatic end of this great ship. For the younger set, they can interact with EMMY, the ship’s cat, to learn about this part of history at their level.
